What to Do if You’re Involved in an Accident:
- Do Not Use the Word "Sorry" or Admit Guilt: Speak as little as possible. Do not apologize or admit fault, as this could be used against you later. Instead, focus on calling the police and requesting a (yellow paper) police report. If you don't receive the paper at the scene, go to the nearest police station to obtain it.
- Stay Calm: Take a moment to collect yourself and assess the situation.
- Check for Injuries: Ensure everyone is safe and call 911 for medical help if needed.
- Move to Safety (If Possible): If the vehicles are drivable, move them to the side of the road to avoid further accidents.
- Call the Police: Even for minor accidents, having a police report can be helpful for insurance claims.
- Document the Scene:
- Take pictures of the damage, the location, and the involved vehicles.
- Gather information: driver's license, insurance details, and contact information from the other party.
- File an Online Claim Immediately: If your insurance provider allows it, file an online claim as soon as possible to start the process quickly.
- Get Witness Information: If there are any witnesses, ask for their contact details in case you need their statement later.
- Notify Your Insurance: Contact your insurance company to report the accident if you haven’t done so online.
